Introduction
Western ghats have emerged as the house for some magnificent hilly region parts. The western ghats provide us with fascinating experiences while trekking. The treks present on the western ghat have a range of variety in terms of difficulty.
There are various scenic treks that one must discover and cherish.
Kudremukh trek:
Kudremukh is situated in the heart of the western ghats in Chikkamagaluru district. It is known as the third highest peak of Karnataka and is situated at an altitude of 6,207 ft. It requires approximately 8 hours to climb up and down the kudremukh trail depending upon your pace. There are waterfalls, beautiful streams and one can feel the vibe of literally touching the clouds. At a few times one may feel that nature is playing hide and seek with them. The trail can suddenly make you enter the jungle, and afterwards suddenly throw you into open space. The trail is beautiful and strictly maintained.
Kalsubai Trek:
This trek is considered to be one of the most popular treks of the Sahyadri region. It is also regarded as the highest peak of the state of Maharashtra. With an altitude of about 5400 feet. The trek is surrounded by waterfalls, forests and historical spots adding beauty to the place. There is a popular Kalsubai temple in the middle of the trek that sees a flock of devotees throughout the year. The temple has been dedicated to Goddess Kalsubai Devi and has great significance. The total distance of the trek is about 12 kms.
Kodachadri Trek:
The Kodachadri trek is located in the Shimoga district of Karnataka and is about 20 kilometres away from Kollur. It is the tenth highest peak of Karnataka and stretches to about 13 kms. It is a perfect trek for people who love adventure. There are stunning pictures of Sharavathi backwaters, vibrant green meadows, tall trees and dense forest along the region. The Jasmine of hills is surrounded by heavy streams of falls and tourist locations. The diverse number of animals that one gets to encounter during this trek is amazing.
Chembra Trek:
The trek located in Wayanad is one of the most popular treks of the Western ghat region. The peak has an altitude of about 2,100 ft and joins the Nilgiri hills in Tamil Nadu and Vallarimala in Kozhikode. The trek does not allow overnight trek as there is a threat of wildlife animals. It is not suitable to visit the peak during the rainy season as it gets slippery. The trek also has a lake by its side. The Hridaya Thadakam Lake is of heart like shape and thus attracts huge crowds.
Dudhsagar Trek:
The Dudhsagar Trek is famous for weekend trips. There is a flock of people who come to visit the Dudhsagar waterfall every weekend. It is a four-tiered waterfall that descends from the peak of the mountains of Karnataka and falls into the Portuguese colony of Goa. The trek is a treat to watch and enjoy.
Bhimashankar Trek:
The popular trek of Bhimashankar is at the height of 3400 ft and covers a distance of about 120 kms. The trek is famous as it holds the popular Shiva temple. The temple is surrounded by tall trees and green bushes all around and is considered to be one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India.
Ratangad Fort Trek:
Ratangad Trek is surrounded by some of the most stunning peaks of Sahyadris and the Bhandardara dam. Over there the natural cavity rock known as the eye of needle is also present. The complete trail till the Ratangad Fort is marked by white arrows on the stones. Therefore the risk of losing track is not present.
Mullayanagiri Trek:
Mullayanagiri is located about 45 minutes away from Chikmagalur. It toils up as the highest peak between the Nilgiris and the Himalayas at a stretch. The fairly steep trail begins at Sarpadhari and supports many small caves. There is a Shiv temple at the hilltop and one can see the magnificent view of western ghats from there.
Some of the treks are way older than the mighty Himalayas and recognised as one of the best trekking destinations. The hills and forests of the ghats become lively in rains thus making it perfect for short hikes. The western ghat region is considered to be the best place for an adventurous and nature loving spot.
